Keep your body clean and disease free.
Exercise daily so that you have better cardiovascular and respiratory performance.
Eat less and suitably to your metabolic needs.
Take prompt care if any of your systems is under stress or imbalanced.
Try to avoid stressed systems to be used ruthlessly
for example you have a digestive problem and still you agree to a dinner party.
You have a heart problem and still you run to catch city bus
or you have respiratory problem yet you do not cover your nose with mask in polluted atmosphere etc. etc.

What would be suitably for our individual metabolic needs?
And how can we measure that?
There are different ways to adjust your diet to your metabolic rate
each one of us has individual metabolic rate (BMR- basal metabolic rate)
person of low BMR are fatty, extra weight and sometimes having a condition called hypothyroidism
persons of high BMR are thin, weak, high heart rate and also some suffer from hyperthyroidism
Metabolism is also affected by age gender and type of activity (sedentary – low activity, moderate to heavy labor work)
some sites calculate your calorie requirement http://www.medindia.net/patients/calculators/calorie.asp
Then you calculate your diet- for example number of tea/coffee cups you take+ all dietary items you take and their calorie value
But it is all technical and troublesome job
(and a person must also not be too much sensitive and must live a trouble free knowledge of diet)
so here is simple formulae- (you may choose all or any one)
If the diet (post-meals) makes you lethargic inactive sleepy you are taking high calorie diet than you require actually
If for the last six months your monthly weight is increasing- again the same
(opposite is also true- means if you are losing weight or become hungry soon then you are taking less diet)
Once in a year or twice must get thyroid check – TSH, T3, T4 hormones
(for above 40 yr ladies this is specially important)
